Are you a motivated and detail-oriented professional with experience in property acquisitions and a passion for housing solutions? If so, Southwark Council is calling you to join us as a Home Purchase & Acquisitions Officer and make a difference in your community making a meaningful impact by increasing the supply of affordable housing.
Key Responsibilities:
- Manage small schemes related to the buyback, sale, or acquisition of Council assets.
- Oversee a shared ownership portfolio, including staircasing, resales, and the collection of rent and service charges.
- Conduct financial assessments on regeneration sites for potential homeowners, ensuring smooth transitions into new homes.
- Identify suitable properties for Council buyback schemes, ensuring purchases remain within budget and overseeing the process through to completion.
- Support the Council’s Cash Incentive Scheme, helping tenants move into the private sector while freeing up properties for those in need.
- Liaise with internal stakeholders, including the Housing Development Team, to identify acquisition opportunities aligned with the Council’s strategic goals.
- Maintain accurate records and prepare performance reports, including financial monitoring and performance indicators.
- Contribute to the development of new projects to increase the supply of affordable housing.
How will you make an impact?
- Proven experience in property acquisition or a similar role, ideally within local government or housing organisations
- Strong understanding of property valuation, financial modelling, and the financial aspects of acquisitions
- Excellent communication skills with the ability to collaborate with homeowners, solicitors, and various Council departments.
- Strong analytical and problem-solving abilities, with a focus on delivering results within tight deadlines.
- Ability to work independently, prioritize tasks, and meet targets with minimal supervision.
- A team player with a proactive attitude and the ability to contribute to new initiatives.
- Enjoy a balanced approach with flexible home working, alongside occasional travel to our London Bridge HQ.
