The Role:
The Public Health division are looking to recruit to a programme officer to support the Southwark Food and Fun Holiday Programme. Whilst the programme delivers in holiday time this is a full time role and is being offered on a fixed term basis until end March 2025.
The Southwark Holiday Food and Fun programme has secured three years of funding from the DfE Holiday Activity Fund (HAF) till March 2025. This holiday provision aims to support children eligible for free school meals with nutritious meals and activities over the main school holidays. Currently the programme provides support to approximately 4000 children over a year, and has worked with over 40 different holiday clubs across the borough to ensure a varied, accessible and high quality programme offer.
Excellent partnership working skills are required for this role, managing a large network of providers and a diverse range of partners and stakeholders. Working in a fast paced complex political, outcomes oriented and frequently challenging environment, the focus is on the delivery and management of a programme with multiple stakeholders and dimensions to high expectations within tight timescales. A strong commitment to addressing the wider determinants of health and to tackle health inequalities is expected.
The Southwark Public Health Team are well regarded for our role in mentoring and supporting staff to advance their Public Health careers, such as towards Public Health Training Scheme or promotion within the sector.
The post holder will be accountable to the Public Health Head of Programmes for Healthy Place.
The post holder will be responsible for managing relevant processes to ensure the smooth delivery of the Food and Fun programme, including budget management and finance, risk management, procurement, contract management, grants processes, communications and promotion, and quality assurance. They will ensure the programme is equitable and evidence-based, providing public health expertise to ensure the programme is targeted according to need and improves health-related outcomes for disadvantaged children and young people in Southwark. The post holder will also line manage the Holiday Provision Programme Coordinator.
About You:
You must have a relevant higher education qualification at degree level and/or a good record of personal responsibility and achievement in delivering relevant projects or programmes.
You will have excellent knowledge of nutrition for children and young people, and a good understanding of food insecurity and health inequalities. You will have experience of managing programmes, projects and budgets.
Your skills will include excellent communication, partnership, analytical and report writing.
You will be highly organised and be comfortable working within a reactive environment.
