The Role:

Inspect, monitor record and report on the condition of the public highway, street furniture, highway structures, drainage, street trees and highway lighting in accordance with current Council policy and procedures.

To submit defect reports as appropriate through a hand held and/or desk top data-base and to carry out and manage work instructions to the relevant service provider.

To attend emergencies on behalf of the service, and coordinate any response by the division. Arrange for the issue of works orders to contractors in cases of emergency.

Record and monitor illegal or unsafe work sites, structures, overhanging vegetation etc, and report to the appropriate manager, statutory authority, or enforcement group.

To liaise with Statutory Utilities, and control entry into the service subways ensuring compliance with the HASAWA and associated codes of practice for confined space entry, and undertake routine maintenance inspections of the service subways

To investigate and provide reports on incident and accident claims, attend meetings with solicitors etc, as required by the Insurance Officer.

To represent the Council’s interests by giving evidence in a Court of Law on all matters relating to incidents on the Public Highway.

About you:

You will be able to assist in ensuring that the Highways service provides an efficient and effective service, which meets service, legislative and council policy requirements, through inspection of infrastructure, supervision of highway and other public realm works and standards. You will be able to assisting in the delivery of highways projects. You will be able to engage in long periods of walking and standing ‘on street’, climbing ladders and working in confined spaces.
