The Role

We are on the lookout for a dynamic and passionate Health and Safety Manager to play a pivotal role in driving positive change and fostering a culture of safety excellence. Southwark Council is embarking on an exciting journey to enhance Health and Safety practices across our Social Housing service

Key Responsibilities

  • Developing and implementing comprehensive health and safety strategies tailored to our social housing initiatives.
  • As a Health and Safety Manager, you will leverage your expertise to navigate challenges with finesse, using negotiation and influence to garner support from department heads, stakeholders, and external partners.
  • Create H&S processes and procedures that align with recognised standards, to serve as a foundation for implementing effective strategies for continuous improvement and transformation.
  • Conducting thorough risk assessments and implementing proactive measures to mitigate potential hazards.
  • Collaborating with internal teams and external partners to ensure compliance with regulations and best practices.
  • Providing expert guidance and training to staff members to foster a culture of safety awareness
  • You will create a resilience, pragmatism, and confidence with your decision-making abilities as you tackle complex issues and identify opportunities for service enhancements.

How will you make an impact as our Health & Safety Manager?

  • NEBOSH National diploma or an IOSH Qualification with a strong background in health and safety management.
  • Previous relevant H&S experience blended with knowledge of Local Government or Public Sector processes is highly desired.
  • A strategic mind-set with the ability to think laterally and adapt to evolving challenges.
  • Exceptional communication skills to effectively engage with stakeholders and promote a culture of safety.
  • A passion for making a positive impact within the Southwark Housing community.
  • Able to create robust H&S processes, structures and systems.
  • A high comfort level with ambiguity, able to navigate challenging opinions with ease.

Please note this role offers flexible home working blended with travel into our London Bridge HQ.
