The Role:

Southwark Council is a friendly, fun and challenging place to work, in the final stages of modernising its approach to Health and Safety.  As part of this we are looking to recruit a health and safety professional to work in a fast paced, dynamic environment revitalising health and safety management across our 41 community schools, on a fixed term 18 month contract.

You will be part of a recently formed, experienced team who are excited to welcome you. In your role you will work closely with the Children’s and Adults’ Health and Safety Manager,  implementing an extensive schools audit program, providing advice and guidance to the schools leadership team and delivering a bespoke schools training program.

As the Schools Health and Safety Advisor you will need to have knowledge and an understanding of best practice in health and safety as well as statutory compliance, including asbestos management, fire safety and water hygiene.  You will be efficient in report writing, managing data and utilising bespoke software management systems. You will review and write safety policies and procedures, and provide audit reports to the Director of Education, Chair of Governors and Headteachers.

Having recently installed a new health and safety software system to raise the profile of health and safety in the school environment, you be tasked with finding new innovative ways of improving how schools manage, report and monitor their health and safety performance. You will review risk assessments to ensure suitability and assist schools with updating documents and procedures.

It’s challenging and interesting work and we want a proactive advisor to help us complete a team that provides a modern oversight and support across all aspects of the health and safety spectrum.

 

About you:

As a minimum, you will hold the NEBOSH National General Certificate or eqivalent qualification in a health and safety. You will have experience of delivering health and safety or compliance accross a multi-site environment in the public sector or blue chip organisation.

You will have excellent stakeholder skills, be visible, proactive, pragmatic, and an excellent communicator. We are looking for an adviser who seeks out and implements best practice.

Additional Information:

- 18 Month Fixed Term Contract

- Graduate or working towards Chartered Membership of the Institution of Occupational Safety and Health (I.O.S.H.)

- A degree or IOSH Diploma in health & safety or equivalent qualification

- Enhanced DBS required
