This role is open to Social Work qualified staff currently employed by or working on an Agency assignment within Southwark Council.

Southwark Council is recruiting a Head of Service for Permanence and Resources for an 18 month period. This is an exciting role that requires a candidate with ambition, creativity and proven experience in leadership in Children’s Services to help to continue to develop the Permanence Service. The role encompasses the Fostering Service, Adoption Service, Access to Resources Service, PAUSE and the Family Group Conference Service.
We are highly ambitious to continue to improve placement stability for all Looked After Children and ensure all children have the best possible placement or resource that supports them to live with their family. The collaborative nature of the work requires excellent communication, interpersonal and influencing skills. The broad scope of the role requires a results-focused approach, supported by well-developed analytical planning, excellent practice knowledge and strong organizational skills, all of which will be used to best effect in helping to instil a reflective and open culture.
You will need to have significant experience managing operational teams within an children’s social care and have a genuine commitment to the provision of high quality services for families and working with families to drive service improvement. The role will be part of the DMT team working together with all of the Heads of Service across Children’s Social Care to provide high quality inspiring leadership. Provide leadership across the service to lead and modernise social care and deliver services to children, their families and carers, whilst ensuring the best deployment of resources that provide the highest quality service.
A key aspect of the role will be to lead the strategic development of the department as part of the Children’s Social Care management team and to translate agreed strategy into operational delivery. The post holder will need to have capacity to be dynamic and show leadership across the system in particular working with key partners to drive service improvement in the Care Service working together with children and families.
