The role
This is a high profile and challenging role. You will have responsibility for the strategic leadership of our commissioning arrangements for mental health services for adults and the implementation of the Southwark Joint Mental Health Strategy. The role will lead on joint commissioning approaches to people with serious mental illness (and the development of alliance contracting for this population group); people in need of acute mental health services, mental health residential care and supported accommodation; prevention and early action; people who need access to psychological therapies or mental health support (including social care) in the community; and older people with mental health problems including dementia. The post manages the mental health team within the Partnership Commissioning Team which leads on the development of joint commissioning of mental health, older people and children’s services. Following a review of the current arrangements the council and CCG are working together to strengthen our approach to commissioning for our whole population.
We are seeking to establish a strong commissioning community, which takes into account a wider group of people and functions in the council and the CCG. This will allow us to develop a more integrated approach to addressing the needs of our population, working together and maximising the use of all our resources.
The job description for this post is currently under review and the scope of the role is to be expanded with the expectation that the role will be at 8d/Hay 16 level. The inclusion of responsibilities for commissioning learning disabilities services is under consideration.
You will be part of an exciting new joint team and will have the opportunity to strongly influence Southwark’s integration of health and social care and mental health and well being provision for the local population.
What are we looking for from you?
- Ability to see, understand and articulate the “bigger picture” for mental health across health and social care
- Exceptional communication skills with the ability to influence a wide range of stakeholders at all levels;
- Ability to lead and develop a joint team across health and social care for commissioning mental health and wellbeing services;
- Highly developed analytical skills combined with sound judgement in complex circumstances.
For a full person specification please see the attached job description. Note that the appointment may be made by either the Council or the Clinical Commissioning Group, dependent on the background and preference of the applicant.
