The Role:
On behalf of the local authority you will, working with the Director of Public Health, lead on improving the health and wellbeing of Southwark through developing, embedding and championing strategic plans to achieve the ambition of the Council to reduce health inequality. You will lead key strategic objectives of the local authority, the Health & Wellbeing Board and Partnership Southwark, and will act as a change agent to enable delivery of relevant outcome indicators. You will be expected to work across organisations, be able to influence budgets held by those organisations as well as advocate for change effectively.
This will be reliant on using a combination of advanced health intelligence and analytical skills in a wide range of core public health areas as well as strategic oversight. Through your role you will provides portfolio advice on population health to the Leader, Cabinet & Council’s leadership team, leading in the achievement of positive outcomes in all transactions undertaken on the Council’s behalf.
About You:
The post holder will deal with complex public health and wellbeing challenges in a multi-organisational environment with widely differing governance and finance system and organisational cultures. You will be able to cope with such circumstances as well as multiple and changing demands, and to meet tight deadlines. You will have a high level of intellectual rigour, political awareness and negotiation and motivation skills as well as flexibility and sensitivity.
You will have a high level of understanding of epidemiology and statistics, public health practice and health care evaluation. You will understand the priorities and constraints of partner agencies such as Social Care, NHS, CCG’s, VCS, and be aware of how they affect the development and delivery of programmes.
The post holder will be the lead advisor to the Health and Wellbeing Board and make recommendations regarding services, residents’ care and wider determinants of health and therefore a high level of tact, diplomacy and leadership is required including the ability work within the local political and at the same time maintain the ability to challenge and advocate for effective working and on specific issues in order to achieve public health outcomes.
