About the Head of EDI Role

We are looking to recruit a Head of Equality, Diversity and Inclusion (EDI) with strong experience in the field to take a lead on our ambitious EDI agenda across the Council. Your role will set the strategic direction for the delivery of our EDI programme, supporting the staff EDI groups, developing links with key stakeholders in this area and providing advice and support to managers at all levels on EDI.

This role will lead on our ground-breaking Southwark Stands Together initiative, which is a long-term programme that puts equality, justice and standing against all forms of discrimination and racism at the centre of how the Council will work to become an anti-racist organisation.

In this post, you will report to the Director of Communities and will manage a team of EDI Officers. The EDI team work across the Authority to provide expertise in the field of EDI and to ensure that EDI programmes are effectively implemented and monitored.

About You

We are looking to recruit an individual who has:

- Extensive experience of working within a senior EDI role

- A proven track record of delivering EDI projects and programmes that drive change in a complex organisation

- A strong knowledge of EDI principles and good practice

- The ability to motivate, enthuse and work closely with colleagues, partners and the community to manage and implement action plans

- The ability to prioritise work and to meet tight deadlines

- High level written and verbal communication skills

- The flexibility and the ability to work effectively in a large and complex public sector organisation.

- The ability to be well-organised, detail-oriented and goal-motivated
