The role
We have an opportunity for a forward thinking planner with design and heritage qualifications and experience who have an understanding of the challenges that an inner London authority like Southwark faces. The heritage team is responsible for writing policies, making decisions and recommendations regarding heritage and conservation that will have far reaching and lasting effects as part of regeneration and protection of a wide range of place.
One role is within Planning Policy. This role will involve research, monitoring, partnership working and working with consultants as well as working on the Local Plan. Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of planning policy particularly an understanding of strategic planning issues, how to research them and explain them in planning policies and excellent digital skills as the candidates will be working on digital transformations.
One role is within Design. This role will involve listed building consents, supporting planners and team leaders. Suitable candidates should be able to demonstrate knowledge and experience of design and how to use these skills.
We require 1 fast track planner who will determine planning applications as a busy team providing excellent customer service.
About you
We are looking for two graduates to join the Planning and Design Teams. We want to hear from people with potential and so even if you are not the finished article, don’t let that stop you from applying as we will work with you to develop and grow These are some of the things we look for.
As a graduate you will be part of a development programme, which is designed to kick-start your successful career in Planning. A combination of practical, on the job experience and theory will combine to give you an overview of best professional practice, resourcing and talent planning, performance management and planning issues working towards RTPI (Royal Town Planning Institute) accreditation. We understand that everyone’s career could be different, as every apprentice goes through their own unique journey.

Whilst on the scheme, we’ll support your technical development through a wide range of on-the-job practical experiences and placements. We will also support your professional development through a combination of online training courses, mentoring opportunities and structured networking opportunities. You will receive one-to-one support throughout the programme from your Line Manager. You’ll also be connected to a ‘buddy’ who will be a more experienced planner and a mentor for RTPI.
You will be based in 160 Tooley Street at London Bridge.
This role can be offered on either permanent basis or on fixed term contract for one year.
