Southwark Council Leisure Services – General Manager (Canada Water Leisure Centre)

Can You take the helm at our new flagship Leisure Centre, part of the Canada Water Masterplan development?

Southwark is a large, ambitious, and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. As a Council, we are successful, passionate, and forward-thinking. In June 2023, the Leisure Services transferred from the current operator to full Council management.

This is a unique opportunity to take your career to the next level in this senior appointment, taking the helm at our new £35m Leisure Centre, part of the Canada Water Masterplan; the first new town centre in London in 50 years featuring 3,000 new homes, and 2 million sq. ft. of workspace accommodation.

 

The Role:

This role will be perfect for an inspirational, experienced General Manager to select, develop, and lead a passionate team to open a thriving centre which will form the beating heart of the new community, as it grows around the centre.

The role is responsible the for the successful opening, operation and development of Canada Water Leisure Centre and ensuring a high-quality service for our residents in the future and in accordance with the relevant council strategies, such as our Fairer Future Promises, Council Plan and Southwark Stands Together values – the Council’s commitment to addressing racial inequality.

The role sits within the Leisure Division part of the Environment, Neighbourhoods and Growth Directorate and is responsible for the day-to-day management of 8 Leisure Centre centres.

 

About You:

Whether you come from the private, charitable, or commercial sector, we are looking for an exceptional talent who shares our ambition and passion to make a difference to our communities.

You will be an experienced leader who can help us set up and run Canada Water Leisure Centre, working collaboratively with a complex range of internal and external stakeholders and partners.

Already operating successfully in a similar role, you will be able to demonstrate significant achievement in increasing participation, identifying, and delivering commercial and community opportunities, and delivering within budget.

You can demonstrate where you have successfully launched a new centre, ensuring that safety is paramount, expenditure is controlled and revenue is maximised from day one, with the support of the exemplar team you have formed.

Additional Information:

  • Job type – Permanent (Full Time)
  • Might be required to work weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
  • Will be required to travel within the borough to the Council’s leisure facility locations, and Head office.
  • DBS check required.
