The role

PURPOSE OF THE JOB

 The main purpose of the job is to develop and support the delivery of Family Group Conferences in Southwark, raising the profile of this process both internally, with families and with partner organizations. The person appointed will lead on developing robust systems to ensure that FGCs become fully embedded in practice and that they are being used consistently and creatively across the borough to achieve the best outcomes for children and their families.

 The post holder will deliver training across Children’s Social Care, with partner agencies and families about the benefits of Family Group Conferences. The person appointed in this role would be working towards the Family Group Service becoming an Accredited Service by the Family Rights Service and a key part of the role would be undertaking the work needed for the service to reach this very important quality standard.

  

PRINCIPAL ACCOUNTABILITIES

  1. To set up and develop a Family Group Conferencing Service across Children’s Services in Southwark ensuring it is used where most effective and that the use of FGC is embedded within current systems.
  2. To promote the use of Family Group Conferences and develop good working relationships with Social Work teams to ensure timely referrals.
  3. To ensure that FGC procedure, guidance and publicity materials are up to date and relevant and available to families, Social Workers and partner agencies.
  4. To recruit and provide effective supervision and support to sessional Family Group Conference Co-ordinators.
  5. To drive continuous improvement in the quality of service delivered in Family Group Conferences across Southwark.
  6. Participate in the council’s performance management scheme, including the induction of new staff.
  7. Maintain own professional development and that of the team through appropriate training and research opportunities and in conjunction with Group Practice Lead and Head of Service.
  8. Represent the council at multi-agency meetings when required.
  9. Promote excellence in practice using evidence informed practice by developing national links with other FGC projects ensuring the FGC Service incorporates new initiatives or research information from these projects.
  10. Ensure that the development and on-going operation of the Family Group Conferencing Service fully incorporates the wishes of children, families and carers and devise systems for their feedback and for them to be part of the service development.
  11. Organise complex information and produce comprehensive, analytic, high quality reports which make cogent arguments based on the evidence to measure the outcomes of cases where an FGC is held.
  12. Deliver services flexibly across different parts the Children’s services (as dictated by service need)
  13. To undertake any other appropriate duties as directed by line manager.

Additional salary details

£44,373 - £51,162
