The 16+ Leaving Care service works with looked after children and care leavers aged from 16 up to 25 years of age. The Young Women’s EP role would provide a great opportunity for a social worker with experience and passion for working with vulnerable young women; the role involves supporting a targeted cohort of care leavers in areas such as pregnancy, parenting, involvement with children’s services processes as well as court proceedings and family separation.
The role:
Southwark's 16+ Leaving Care Service is recruiting for an Experienced Practitioner (EP) - to take on the role of Young Women’s Worker. This is a great opportunity for a Social Worker to step into an Experienced Practitioner role in an interesting and dynamic area of children’s services.
Alongside holding a small, targeted caseload the post holder will offer individual and group case consultations across the service to other practitioners and will provide a weekly drop in for young people in other teams. The post holder is expected to drive practice standards and upskill practitioners through training sessions and the sharing of knowledge, services and resources. The post holder may be required to stand in for the team manager at times and therefore needs to evidence strong leadership credentials.
This role sits within an Experienced Practitioner team with other Experienced Practitioners including, EET, housing, social capital, group work and substance misuse.
About you:
This role requires a strong advocate for care leavers and you will need to understand pathways and thresholds across different teams and organisations. A good working knowledge is required around both children’s and adults services as well as community organisations/resources that support mental/physical health needs, parenting/family support, domestic violence and sexual health.
This role requires a creative, dynamic and tenacious practitioner who can engage with and support teenagers and young women through crisis and build supportive and effective multi-agency networks around them to improve long term outcomes for them and often their children.
