The Role

Use your investigative skills and knowledge to protect the community in Southwark and safeguard legitimate enterprise.  Undertaking enforcement and compliance work using trading standards and other regulatory legislation. 

Southwark’s trading standards team has achieved national recognition thanks to some great successes, including tackling unsafe cosmetic products, knife crime initiatives and working with partners to improve standards in the private rented sector. Successful use of proceeds of crime legislation for confiscations is another strength.

The team forms part of the Council's Regulatory Services Division which is based just a short walk from London Bridge Station.  The Division encompasses a wide range of public protection and environmental health functions, all working towards the Council’s fairer future commitments. 

Trading Standards priorities include doorstep crime, fair trading issues, age restricted sales and tackling the illegal economy in fake, illicit or unsafe goods.  You can read more about us on our webpages at www.southwark.gov.uk/tradingstandards

About You

Experience of carrying out trading standards inspections, investigations or other criminal enforcement and compliance activities is vital. You must be competent in the legal process aspects of the role and the safeguards applicable when taking enforcement action. 

You should also be able to prepare documents for legal or other formal proceedings and be able to communicate effectively with a wide range of individuals and organisations.

Strong team skills are important and you should be experienced in partnership working to deliver service objectives.
