The role

The Role:

This is an exciting opportunity to join the Electoral Services team. London Borough of Southwark are looking to recruit an Electoral Services Officer to contribute towards the effective delivery of elections and referenda, electoral registration, the annual canvass and periodic electoral reviews in accordance with electoral legislation.

About Southwark:

We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark’s residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.

At Southwark we are committed to making our borough just and fair and are taking positive action to tackle inequalities. Our residents and communities are our greatest asset and the passion we have for Southwark is shared by millions of Londoners who enjoy our outstanding cultural offer, use our hospitals and attend our universities. Our refreshed borough plan and focus on Southwark Stands Together, (which is our work with Southwark’s communities and the council’s staff to tackle racism, injustice and inequality) underpins all that we do.

About You:

If you are someone with drive, enthusiasm and a positive attitude, who thrives on working in a busy and challenging environment we would love to hear from you.

You should possess excellent administrative skills and the ability to work accurately under pressure. You will be required to manage your own workload and prioritise conflicting demands to meet statutory deadlines.

For this role you must be able to communicate effectively and confidently when dealing with the public, elected representatives and other key stakeholders.

You must be committed to working in the field of democracy and understanding the complexities regarding registration, voting legislation as well as keeping abreast of new legislative developments.

Ideally you will already have a good understanding of electoral administration. However, the successful candidate will have the opportunity to develop their skills and knowledge as well as obtain Association of Electoral Administrators qualifications.

The post holder must be flexible and prepared to work additional hours, including evenings, weekends and bank holidays with restrictions on leave during elections and peak canvass periods.
