The role

This is an exciting opportunity for a treasury and pensions specialist to join Southwark Council’s finance team.

Southwark Council’s pension fund is one of the biggest Local Government Pension Funds in London, with assets of over £1.9bn and an ambitious target to achieve carbon neutrality in its investments.

The role sits within the corporate finance team and reports to the Senior Finance Manager for Treasury and Pensions.  You will support the Senior Finance Manager in all aspects of ensuring our pension fund and treasury functions are fit for purpose, including the oversight of the pension fund’s investment portfolio in line with Local Government Pension Scheme (LGPS) regulations.

To be considered you will need to be a qualified accountant or have relevant experience at an equivalent professional level.  Whilst experience with pension fund investments and accounting within local government and/or the local government treasury function is highly desirable, the ability to demonstrate strong technical accounting skills, along with strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information in an understandable way is key to the role.

The role will lead on all aspects of pension fund accounting, including the production of the statement of accounts and line management of the Pension Fund Accountant.

The successful candidate will provide support in leading on the day to day monitoring of the pension fund investments, and on the management of pension fund contracts.  You will liaise with external fund managers, advisers and other suppliers, building effective working relationships, ensuring a high level of service is maintained for the pension fund.

If you are interested in the role and would like to find out more please contact Caroline Watson, Senior Finance Manager, at caroline.watson@southwark.gov.uk, or by telephone 0207 525 4379.
