The role
The role sits within the corporate finance team and reports to the Chief Accountant. You will support the Chief Accountant in a number of key areas of corporate finance including financial accounting and audit, corporate revenue and capital monitoring, VAT, technical accounting, submission of statutory returns and special projects.
Southwark Council is a large and complex organisation and this is an exciting opportunity to work in the heart of its finance function, ideally suited for a self-motivated accountant who aspires to help build a strong corporate finance team and build up their accounting skills and experience.

About You
-To be considered you will need to be a qualified or part-qualified accountant and have some relevant experience in local government finance. The ability to demonstrate strong technical accounting skills, along with strong communication and presentation skills and the ability to communicate complex financial information in an understandable way is key to the role.
-Detailed corporate accounting knowledge is not essential but the successful candidate will be expected to undergo intensive on the job training to quickly become proficient in technical accounting areas and they will provide key support to finance professionals within the PFS service and service managers.
-You will liaise with our external auditors, HMRC, professional advisers and other suppliers, building effective working relationships, ensuring a high level of service is maintained for the Council
