About Southwark:
We are the largest local authority social landlord in London, managing 55,000 homes lived in by 40% of Southwark’s residents. We are home to over 18,300 businesses including iconic London venues and social enterprises and we have a young, diverse and growing population.
Every year, 3,159 households approach Southwark Council for housing assistance. Currently, we have 3,830 households in temporary accommodation, a number that has significantly increased over the last two years. We are committed to changing this trend. In Southwark, we strive to be more than a last resort. We aim to provide early help to prevent the trauma of homelessness, and when people do come to us, we want them to experience a service that listens, empathizes, and delivers the right support at the right time.
As part of managing 55,000 homes, we oversee 19 sheltered housing schemes with 592 homes and 2 extra care schemes with 81 homes. These homes are vital for some of the most vulnerable members of our community. It is crucial to us that they not only receive excellent landlord services but also the best possible care and support.
Effective homelessness and care services require collaboration. As the Director of Housing Needs & Support, you will be responsible for engaging with key stakeholders, both internal and external to the Council, to ensure residents' needs are met comprehensively.
The role:
We have created the post of Director of Housing Needs & Support to develop the strategy that will bring Southwark’s vision for these services to life and ensure high-quality operational delivery. We are seeking a highly qualified, innovative, inspiring, and experienced leader to lead these services. You will be responsible for 275 staff and a budget of £45m. We expect you to bring drive, rigour, determination, and ambition to make these services the best they can be and create positive experiences for the residents of Southwark.
