The role
We are looking for a compassionate and ambitious leader to build on our success in delivering value, innovation and excellence through partnership. This is a broad strategic role and you will work closely with the Strategic Director, the corporate management team to deliver Southwark’s strategic plan and objectives and also the Strategic Director’s vision. Ultimately, alongside the Strategic Director, you would lead the Council’s financial planning, financial reporting and financial governance frameworks.
If you have a track record of achieving results, experience of working at a Senior level with external strategic partners and stakeholders, we would like to hear from you. As a fully qualified accountant, you’ll demonstrate the highest level of professional expertise and leadership in developing financial strategies to support the Council in the delivery of its Future Southwark vision. This will involve navigating the Council’s finances through a challenging fiscal period. You will be the Council’s deputy S151 Officer as well as being accountable for the safe delivery of insurance and internal audit / fraud activity.
You’ll need extensive experience and leadership of a major finance function, a sophisticated grasp of business planning and budgeting; and evidence of achieving your objectives, while also developing and managing high-performing teams. You will maintain effective commercial management skills as applicable to local authority activity.
You will additionally bring experience of adaptability and leading through a background of change and uncertainty. You'll set high professional standards, demonstrate personal and professional credibility and have excellent communication, negotiation and influencing skills.
