The role
Southwark is a place with a rich and proud history, a strong sense of community and an ability to transform and renew. Home to renowned destinations such as Shakespeare’s Globe, the Shard and the Tate Modern, Southwark is also a place full of energy where regeneration and development abound. However many of our residents struggle with low income, poor housing and a lack of affordable alternatives to a council home, for which we have a waiting list of around 10,000 households. Your vital role will help make Southwark a place where all of our communities benefit from the regeneration and other opportunities that are growing in our borough.
Southwark is one of the UKs largest social landlords and the scale and breadth of our portfolio is significant, as are our national linkages and influence. As Director of Asset Management for London’s largest stock retaining authorities, you will be responsible for ensuring we have a robust strategy for maintaining, repairing and refurbishing over 55,000 properties on behalf of our 32,000 residents and 13,000 leaseholders.
At the same time you’ll lead our ambitious programme to build 2,000 new council homes by 2022, meeting the housing needs of many overcrowded and homeless residents in our borough.
We’re fortunate to have some of the best people working right at the top of their game here in Southwark and this is a key moment for the right person to join us.
We are seeking someone who has had extensive experience in a similar role delivering a large housing capital programme with significant procurement and management experience. You will need to manage the balance of major repairs and maintenance, to achieve the best for tenants and leaseholders, as well as leading the housing procurement strategy. You will have the gravitas to be the principal adviser Members and the Chief Executive Officer for the asset management strategy, the housing investment strategy, and the new homes programme agenda.
You may or may not have prior experience in Local Government, but you will be credible with our residents and passionate about delivering upon our commitments to them.
This is a senior leadership role and you will play a key role in the Council’s modernisation programme to deliver on our ‘Fairer Future’ commitments to our residents.
