The role

We are seeking a new Culture and Events Manager with the dynamism, energy and experience to help the borough achieve its ambitions for culture. Southwark has always been a centre of creative excellence with a vast cultural footprint that sets it on the international stage. All the way from its docks and bridges lining the River Thames, down to its greener edges in the south, there are world-class galleries, museums, colleges, and community libraries with busy events calendars. We are home to makers and creators, film sets and festivals, spaces and studios. The people living, working and studying in Southwark, and our growing visitor numbers, all contribute to this diverse, unrivalled cultural landscape.

We consider culture and events essential drivers for social well-being and economic prosperity. We believe that they enrich communities and contribute to a sense of place and identity. The council’s commitment to culture is articulated in Creative Southwark: the council’s cultural strategy. This is strengthened by the Council Plan priority to fund local groups to deliver events and festivals that showcase the diverse histories, music, food and art of our communities.

- Working with the Head of Culture you will be responsible for the provision of leadership, financial and strategic direction and day-to-day management of culture, arts, filming and events services, contributing to the delivery of the Council’s key priorities and overall performance.

- You will provide advice and support for cultural institutions and event organisers in the borough, and fulfil an advisory role in areas such as culture and regeneration, public art commissioning and cultural infrastructure.

- You will manage an arts and events team of 8 people and you will successfully develop relevant internal and external partnerships.

- We are looking for someone who has the skills, experience, energy and creativity to deliver the highest quality cultural services to the residents of Southwark.

If this sounds like your next career move, please apply online.
