The role

We are looking for a highly committed person who wants to become an expert in public sector finance.

Southwark Council has a high success rate in producing fully qualified CIPFA accountants. As a CIPFA trainee, you will have a programme of work based support and placement rotations which will provide you with the experience and knowledge you need to become a first rate finance manager.

The finance function within Southwark Council plays a crucial role in our ambitious regeneration plans, supporting service delivery and achieving the aims of the council’s strategy, through helping to administer the c.£270m annual revenue budget and £2bn 10 year capital programme. Finance is at the heart of the decision making process.

We are looking for a person who has strong numeric, written, oral and presentation skills and the ability to work and communicate effectively with a wide range of audiences. You will also have knowledge of the public sector (and local government in particular) and an awareness of key issues relating to the work of the public sector.

You will need to be able to start at Southwark Council by 1 September 2018.

Fixed term until 31 December 2021

The starting salary is £25,947 rising incrementally to £42,552 upon qualification.
