Are you looking for a new challenge and a chance to develop skills and experience in Child and Adolescent Mental Health Specialist services (CAMHS)?

An opportunity has arisen for an experienced social worker to join our multi-professional CAMHS inpatient team based at South London and Maudsley, NHS Foundation Trust.

The CAMHS inpatient service offers ward based assessment and treatment for children and young people aged 6-18yrs with serious mental health problems including significant mood disorders, neurodevelopmental and early onset psychosis. While our wards are located across both our sites at the Bethlem Royal Hospital and the Maudsley hospital, this post will be located at the Bethlem Adolescent unit  for 12 -18yr olds, at the Bethlem Royal Hospital, Beckenham. 

As the ward social worker you will provide a high-quality social work service to children and young people with complex mental health problems along with their carers.

You will work closely with the unit staff team in contributing to the assessment, treatment and care planning for children and young people on the unit, including discharge planning and liaison with local authorities and community services.

You will take a lead in safeguarding on the ward in conjunction with multi-disciplinary colleagues and in liaison with local services.

You will also be part of a well-established, experienced and supportive team of social workers employed in inpatient CAMHS by Southwark Children’s services for SLaM and you will provide a social work service and cover for other CAMHS wards where required.

The role provides multiple opportunities for personal and professional development within the field of CAMHS.

We require a qualified, SWE registered social worker for this full time CAMHS inpatient social worker post.

You will have post qualifying experience of working with children with mental health difficulties in statutory child and family settings and/or CAMHS.

You will have knowledge of statutory requirements in safeguarding and mental health.

You will have an interest in developing your skills in a CAMHS setting and be committed to delivering excellent child and family centred care with an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.

The post is responsible to the CAMHS inpatient social work Team Manager who is line managed by Southwark Children’s Services.

The post holder will also work closely with the ward manager and the CAMHS inpatient multi-disciplinary team.
