The Role:
An opportunity to work at the heart of political decision-making in a vibrant London borough.
Southwark Council is recruiting a Cabinet and Public Affairs Manager, managing a team which directly supports and advises the Leader of the Council and Cabinet, and maximises our impact with opinion formers and decision makers to get the best deal for residents. This exciting role in our external affairs division works across the council to support the delivery of key priorities.

About You:
You will manage the council’s cabinet, policy and public affairs functions, directly supporting the Leader of the Council and Cabinet and overseeing the council’s relationships with key political stakeholders. You will lead a team that helps put Southwark at the forefront of public policy debate and ensures that the interests of our residents are well represented to Government, City Hall and other decision makers. Working closely with elected members and senior officers, you will provide expert advice on a range of policy and political issues and public affairs approaches. In this varied and challenging role you will build a network of key stakeholders to champion Southwark’s calls and build the council’s external profile to improve the lives of people in the borough. Working closely with our communications teams, you will work on a range of issues which affect the daily lives of our 300,000 residents.

This is an exciting role in the heart of the council where you will need to think creatively to find solutions to the challenges which the council faces and help deliver its vision of a fairer future for all in Southwark.

Additional details:
This post is offered on a fixed term contract for 9 months to cover maternity leave. We advise that internal staff gain agreement from your substantive line manager before applying if you are considering this is as a secondment opportunity.

This post attracts an additional JNC financial benefit package of £2,724 per annum (pro-rata based on start date)
