Southwark is undergoing one of the most exciting and ambitious regeneration programmes in London, and you could be right at the centre of it. As a Building Control Inspector, you’ll play a key role in shaping a borough that is thriving with development, sustainability and innovation.
In this role, you will oversee building control applications for developments up to 20 storeys, ensuring compliance with the Building Safety Act 2022, Fire Safety Act 2021 and associated regulatory frameworks while delivering a high-quality, customer-focused service.
What You'll Be Doing

Acting as a technical specialist, providing expert advice to developers, architects, councillors and internal stakeholders.

Assessing building control applications and ensuring compliance with statutory regulations and safety standards.

Supporting enforcement activity, dangerous structures work and corporate enquiries relating to building safety.

Working collaboratively with statutory consultees including the London Fire Brigade and the Building Safety Regulator.

Contributing to service improvements and supporting the Building Control Service Improvement Plan.

What We're Looking For
We’re looking for a dynamic and experienced Building Control Inspector who is motivated to make a real impact and help shape the future of Southwark’s built environment. You will bring a blend of technical expertise, leadership capability and a collaborative approach.
You will have:

Chartered professional status with corporate membership of one or more of the following: RICS, CABE, IStructE, ICE, CIOB, IMechE, CIAT, RIBA or IFE.

A Class 2 Building Control professional qualification.

Proven experience working within building control in a city or urban environment, including large-scale residential and commercial developments.

Strong technical knowledge of Building Regulations, construction methods and the wider legislative framework.

Experience delivering high-quality services within a regulated environment, with the confidence to provide expert advice to a range of stakeholders.

Excellent communication and relationship-building skills, enabling you to work effectively with developers, architects, councillors and internal teams.

The ability to manage competing priorities, maintain attention to detail and deliver outcomes in a fast-paced development environment.

A commitment to continuous professional development, with a desire to grow your expertise as legislation and construction practices evolve.
