The role

Every child and young person deserves a good start in life. But for some children, these formative years aren’t going as well as we’d hope. This is why we are developing and transforming our early intervention service delivery to a Family Hub model. This is an innovative programme delivering wholesale reform of the delivery model of support to parents, carers and children aged from conception to age 19 or up to 25 for those with special education needs and disabilities. We are developing new ways of supporting parents with the skills and knowledge they need for their children to thrive and reach their potential.

You will be working within a systemic framework as part of an embedded clinical service across Children Centres, Family Hubs and Family Early Help departments focussing on work within community settings. You will be providing 1-1 and group interventions to children and families with various needs as well as providing targeted support in relation to parent/infant mental health. This role will form part of the team leading on the delivery of services to children aged 0-2 and their families through the integrated Family Hub model and Start for Life programme.

About You:

We’re looking for a practitioner to work within our newly developing Family Hubs, focussing on improving infant (0-2) mental health, parental mental health and parent-infant relationships. You will be skilled in reaching and building relationships with families who are in crucial need of support but might struggle to access services. You will need to have a solid grasp and understanding of child development, needs and parenting practice. We are particularly keen to meet applicants with skills in working with adults as well as with parent-infant dyads. You will have an understanding of the issues faced by parents and carers in a diverse community and able to assess and respond to this need using evidence based interventions.

The post is suitable for, practitioners and family support workers whom have experience working within health, social care or education settings. The post holder will have access to training in Association for Infant Mental Health Level 2 interventions such as VIG and Reflective Parenting.

We can offer you quality clinical supervision, resources, training and support. Our approach engenders a shared sense of accountability, reflective space and support. Southwark as a borough is committed to actively anti-racist practice with children and families and creating an anti-racist working environment and we are particularly keen to attract applicants who will improve the extent to which our workforce represents the population we serve.
