About Southwark:
Southwark is a large, ambitious and progressive council with a ‘can do’ attitude and enviable reputation. We are committed to our ‘Fairer Futures for All’ promise which ensures our residents and businesses are central to everything we do.

The Role:

Health Education England have awarded Southwark Clinical Service with funding for two Assistant Psychologist posts for aspiring psychologists from Black or other ethnic minority backgrounds to provide experiences that will support applications to enter training to become Clinical Psychologists.

One post will be based in the clinical team in the Assessment and Intervention Service. This service focuses on assessing risk and providing support to families. The Clinical Service supports social workers to bring systemic and psychological knowledge and practice into this important area of social care.

The other post will be based in the Care and Care Leaver’s service, working with Clinical Practitioners to support social workers who support looked after children and young people who are leaving care.

Both posts are supervised by experienced Clinical Psychologists. You will support the clinical team in tasks such as service evaluation, data collection and analysis, supporting clinical assessments and intervention planning, and participating in reflective practice and group supervision. There may be opportunities to support clinicians in delivering aspects of clinical interventions.

We are looking to employ two assistant psychologists to each work one day a week for a six month period. We would be open to discussing flexible variations on this pattern, for example two days a week for a three month period.

About You:

The posts are suitable for applicants with BPS Graduate Basis for Chartered Membership, achieved through either an undergraduate degree or conversion course. You have black or other ethnic minority heritage and are at the start of your journey in gaining experience to apply for clinical psychology training; this would need to be your first assistant psychologist post. You are enthusiastic, open minded, and compassionate. You are interested in developing applied psychological knowledge and skills in a non-traditional clinical setting.

We are keen to hear from applicants who are care experienced, but this is not a requirement.

Additional Information:

Please specify in your supporting statement if you are interested in a particular area. You will otherwise be considered for both posts at interview.

A satisfactory Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS) check at an enhanced level is required.

Benefits and more information:

We can offer you quality clinical supervision, resources, training and support to do the job well.
