The role

Southwark is a borough powered by extraordinary people. We have much to be proud of and every reason to be ambitious about the future. Our recently launched Southwark 2030 strategy unites local partners around a vision that together, we will build a fair, green and safe Southwark - where everyone can live a good life as part of a strong community. To deliver this vision, we need to unleash the collective talents of residents, communities, organisations and our own staff.

It's an exciting time to join our service, as we continue on a journey of transformation - aimed at reshaping both our HR service delivery and people management practices. In this newly created role, you'll be critical in supporting the council to maximise the contribution of our people and ensure the Southwark 2030 vision is achieved. Collaborating with key stakeholders, you’ll have the opportunity to lead and influence significant cultural, process, and technological changes, while providing expert advice to our senior leaders.

Leading a diverse team, you'll be instrumental in driving the council’s ambition of being an exemplary employer, where colleagues are valued, empowered to perform at their best, and accountable for their outcomes.

Who are we looking for?

You’ll be a strategic, change-driven leader with an extensive background in HR and people management. You'll have a strong track record of leading diverse teams, motivating and inspiring people to excel, while guiding colleagues through change.

Your success will rely on your ability to engage and influence a wide range of stakeholders, including senior leaders, colleagues, and external partners. This requires strong relationship-building skills and the ability to communicate with confidence and impact. You’ll also bring a passion for public service, a commitment to the council’s values, and the ability to harness and develop talent both within your team and across the organisation.
