The role

We are recruiting for an Archive Officer to work within the Southwark Archives team.

You’ll play an important part in all aspects of the archive service’s work – providing customer service to researchers on-site and at a distance, developing and presenting the service’s learning and outreach programme, promoting and improving collection management and security, and supporting the service’s wider strategic goals.

We’re looking for an applicant with a professional qualification in archives and records management, or equivalent work experience.

To succeed, you will need knowledge of current standards and best practice in archival recordkeeping, as well as experience of working in an archive: experience working in a local authority archive is desirable, but not essential.

Southwark’s communities are varied, and the service works with a variety of users and stakeholders, so you’ll be comfortable communicating verbally and in writing, and capable of successfully promoting understanding to a diversity of audiences.

Your flexibility and organisational skills allow you to work alone or in a team, partner effectively with a variety of internal and external stakeholders and partners, and meet targets and deadlines effectively.
