Can you help Southwark Council to shape a brand new leisure service that supports all its residents to lead healthy lives?

In June 2023, Leisure Services transferred to full council management. This is a unique opportunity to be part of building a new future for leisure services in Southwark.

We are looking for a passionate and experienced Aquatic Manager this is an ideal role for an individual who is motivated by managing and leading a team of staff, is commercially driven and passionate about swimming. The Aquatics Manager is responsible for the commercial, sales, programming, development and operations of the Learn to Swim programme within the leisure centre and the aquatic programme within the leisure centre.

The post holder will be required to understand and use KPIs to improve commercial performance of the sites pool programme, create competitor analysis and SWOT to influence key objectives for the programme annually, manage the swim lesson sales targets and provide clear communication to the teams who support the sales process. Continually review net gain as the key metric, implement a strong focus on customer experience through post booking calls and take responsibility for training customer-facing staff on the sites to learn to swim, deliver a high quality programme driven by customer feedback and best practice utilising data provided by internal systems to encourage healthy activity and help reduce health inequalities in the borough.

Reporting to the Contract Swim Manager, the successful candidate will have a passion for delivering excellent customer service. The successful candidate will have experience in swim lesson and aquatic program management, demonstrate excellent health and safety management, customer care, retention of existing members and driving the performance of the Fitness product across the centres in the borough.

The role will sit in the Environment, Neighbourhood and Growth department, responsible for managing parks and open spaces, trees, sports and leisure, cemeteries, youth and play, highways, roads, parking, refuse collection, street cleansing, culture and libraries.

About You

Hold a ASA Old Level 1 or SEQ Level 2 Teaching Swimming or equivalent (or achieved within timescale)Good knowledge of commercial and competitive marketing, preferably in the leisure industry
• Experience in Managing a Swim Scheme including health and safety knowledge, and experience.
• Experience working in a customer-facing environment, providing the highest levels of customer care
• Experience in Financial awareness and understanding. Previous budgetary control experience.

Additional Information:
• Will be required to work occasional weekends and evenings to meet the needs of the service.
• Basic DBS check required.
