The Role:
Southwark manages approximately 90,000 trees in Parks & Open Spaces, Housing, Highways and a small number of schools. There are also 65 sites of importance for nature conservation in Southwark including 7 local nature reserves.
We are currently looking to recruit a Tree Planting & Ecological Projects Officer to build on the achievements of our recent tree planting initiatives, in association with climate change mitigation, and be part of an ambitious, successful team providing our residents with high quality, customer focussed, timely and outcome-based arboricultural and ecological services.
You will have experience of working within the arboricultural or a related industry either in a similar local authority, and a willingness to undertake continuous professional and personal development.
The post holder will be responsible for initiating, planning, co-ordinating, implementing and monitoring tree planting and ecological enhancement projects, in accordance with health & safety and tree works legislation and with council policy. The post holder will source funding opportunities for the programme and promote the active participation of the public, working closely with residents, community groups, charities, sponsors and third-party organisations.
About You:
ordinating high value arboricultural or horticultural contracts in partnership with contractors and customers
Use of applications, contract monitoring and reporting software e.g. ‘Confirm’ (with training)
- Preparation of complex reports
- Organise plans and prioritise workloads effectively
- Be flexible and responsive to the needs of the service
- Work independently and as part of a team
- Define problems and produce innovative solutions against financial constraints
- Communicate effectively both orally and in writing with a wide range of people including members, senior officers, and community representatives
- Develop innovative engagement and educational initiatives in association with
environmental enhancement projects
- Negotiate where interests conflict
- Represent the unit both within the Council and externally
