An opportunity has arisen for an experienced part-time adult mental health social worker within the South London and Maudsley at The National Perinatal Unit.
This is an acute in -patient setting based at the Bethlem Royal Hospital in Beckenham.
You will work alongside a child focused social work manager as part of a multi-disciplinary inpatient team offering specialist inpatient assessment and treatment for mothers with their babies.
Our service is for women who develop a mental illness or have a relapse of serious mental illness during pregnancy, and women who have developed postnatal depression, post-partum psychosis or have had a relapse of serious mental illness following the birth of their baby. This includes complex psychological diagnoses.
As a ward social worker/AMHP you will provide a high quality social work service to women with complex mental health difficulties and their families and carers.
Duties include working closely with the staff team in providing guidance regarding mental health and mental capacity (DoLs) legislation, adult safeguarding and domestic abuse. Contributing to the assessment, treatment and care planning for mothers admitted on the unit, discharge planning and liaison with community professionals including CMHTs, Community Perinatal Teams, local authorities and community services, working with the MBU children’s social worker and local authorities in responding to cases where child safeguarding concerns are identified.
You will be part of a well-established, experienced and supportive wider team of social workers employed in inpatient CAMHS, providing a social work service and cover where required.
We require a qualified Social Work England registered social worker/AMHP for this part time inpatient post.
You will have substantial knowledge of mental health legislation, safeguarding adults and children and experience of working with adults with a range of mental health and/or psychological difficulties.
You will have an interest in developing your skills in a perinatal inpatient setting and be committed to delivering excellent family centred care with an ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team.
