Security of Personal Data

The job vacancy and application sections of this site are hosted for Southwark by Lumesse TalentLink.

Personal data will be collected from you when you register online and your personal data will be used to manage your registration and application(s).

Lumesse TalentLink and Southwark Council will use your information for the purposes of administering the services in connection with this site.

Data Protection and confidentiality

Both parties shall ensure that the Services Provided comply with the requirements of all legislation in force from time to time within the United Kingdom governing the collection, storage and/or use of Personal Data, including, without limitation , the Data Protection Act 1998 (the “Act”) or any other applicable law.

All of our registration and job application pages start with or contain “https” – this means that all of the data supplied by the applicant is encrypted before being transmitted over the internet.

Secure e-forms take a little longer to use because of the encryption technology. All pages of the system will contain “https” as part of the URL, this guarantees secure and encrypted transmition of all personal data

By submitting an on-line application it will be assumed by the Council that you agree to the processing of sensitive personal data (as described below), in accordance with the Council’s registration with the Data Protection Commissioner.

How we use the information your provide

The information that you provide on your online application form and that obtained from other relevant sources will be used to process your application for employment with Southwark Council.

The personal information that you give us will also be used in a confidential manner to help us to monitor our recruitment process.

If you succeed in your application and take up employment with the Council, the information will be used in the administration of your employment with us and to provide you with information about the Council or third party via your payslip.

We may also use the information if there is a complaint or legal challenge relevant to this recruitment process.

We may check the information collected with third parties or against other information held by us.

We may also use or pass to certain third parties information to prevent or detect crime, to protect public funds, or in other ways as permitted by law.

Holding your personal data

Personal data will be held only for as long as is necessary for the purpose for which it is provided and will only be kept for 12 months after any application you have made has been completed.

Personal data will be processed fairly and lawfully in adherence to the Data Protection Act 1998. Reasonable and appropriate measures are taken to ensure that your personal data (including the information in your application form/CV) is protected from unauthorised access or modification, unlawful destruction and improper use. However, the internet is an open system and neither Lumesse TalentLink nor Southwark Council can and do guarantee that the personal information you have submitted will not be intercepted by others and decrypted.

Keeping your own data secure

You should keep your personal password and log-in details secure.  Please ensure that this information is not given to anyone else. The effectiveness of our safety measures may be enhanced if you create passwords that cannot be accessed, guessed or reproduced easily by unauthorised persons. It is important to note that we will never send an e-mail asking you to confirm any of your personal details or your passwords.

Keeping your own details up to date

It is your responsibility to ensure that your application form is accurate and kept up to date. If any of the information that you have provided changes, please log in and update your account details.
